Memorial Day or Labor Day??

While I am waiting for my scanner to work so that I can get the Montana pictures done, I'll update you on how the weekend went. As I mentioned we kept Beau this past weekend while the Atherton's were away. I tried desperately to teach Beau a trick before they came back yesterday. The trick is a twist on the one my uncle taught his dog Max. Jabo, my uncle, would look at his dog and say, "Would you rather be a dead dog or a Republican"? and of course at this point max would flip over on his back with his legs high in the air. Being a Republican myself, I of course had to change this to Would you rather be a dead dog or a Democrat? Well, try as I might...the most I could get Beau to do was lay down. He is half roll over one time but nothing more than that. I'm sure is was my non-existent skill in training dogs and not Beau's intelligence that was the problem. This dog is smarter than you would think. He would wait until he was asked before he would get on the "new" couch (we had gotten rid of the one he was allowed to get up on) and he would sit at my door at night and whine until Todd opened the door and then he would bound over to me on the bed and cuddle up. Maybe in his heart the dog is a democrat and that is why he wouldn't do the trick??? NNAAHHHH!
Here is what Beau looked like for most of the weekend (the lap changed a bit from Todd to me to the kids)

One of the funniest things I saw was when Beau he was in the kitchen, his shadow was showing up on the door frame. He began barking at it and pawing. One of his swipes landed on the "cat". This is the kind made out of metal and it's head bobs, I am highly allergic to the real kind. Anyway, this sends Beau into a frenzy and he begins to bob and weave around the cat barking ferociously and swiping his paws.

On the homefront...We started laying down the hardwood floors in my moms foyer while Art way busy building the custom bookshelves in the office.

Rest for the weary??

Not at the Craig house. After being woken up at 7 ish by Nolan and Beau, the dog, the kids and I set out for my moms house. They are back from Montana but are still unpacking so I don't have my photos yet. There is nothing like company coming over to get the updating to the house done that you have been waiting for your daughter to do.So...I pulled up carpet, padding, tack strips, nails and as a special treat, scrapped the popcorn off the ceiling in the foyer at my moms house. Todd and I are headed over there on Memorial day to start laying the hardwood floors. My Aunt Terri and mom's cousin Ellen are due to come for a visit next weekend so we are making hast on our project.

I'll get some pics and get them on soon.

School's Out for Summer!!!

This is the chant I heard on the way home today. It was the last day of school today..actually, just a party day. The kids got out about 10:45 after being sugared up by the teacher, I wonder if this was for how they acted this year in school-maybe a little payback? Anyway, I ran off without the camera so I have no photos of the kids glowing faces. Everybody acted like it was a good thing school was out, I however see it a different way. My kids who have been watched over and taught knowledge are now going to be a work with me part-time and I can already hear "There's nothing to do", "I'm bored". Uugghh. I do have a few things planned for over the summer but we are trying to save our money for the Disney trip in the fall. I only have 4 days until VBS and probably need a good two weeks straight to get ready. I've got to pick my parents up from the airport at 5:ish, they arrive today from Montana and we are keeping Beau for the weekend.

I need a nap.

Oh what a day mom had!

We were at our neighbors house until way late last night, Hahn turned 40!! Although we were lucky and just had to walk home and fall into bed, when it is 11:30 that 5:30 alarm comes very quickly. Ok, I hit the snooze twice before I actually got up. Anyway, got to work at 6:50 and started preparing for the day (I'm the Nursery Director at my church). I'm working the baby room since I am currently in need of a full-time staff person in there and luckily we only had 8 this morning. I then had a mandatory meeting with my staff and proceeded to explain for 1 1/2 hours why we obey rules. I am suppose to be meeting Todd at skates 280 at 2:30 where he is going to drop Emma off for a birthday party. I leave at 2:20 and for those of you who know Hwy 280, I didn't make it on time. We got to spend about an hour at the party before we headed out to the Rave theater to watch Prince Caspian (excellent movie) with some family friends  and then headed over to Zaxby's for dinner. Which of course at this point Nolan mentions that he didn't get his homework done from the 2 days he missed school this past week. Todd heads home early with Nolan to get him started on his stuff. I drop off Catrina at her house and Emma and I head home. It's 8:00 by now and we still have to get showers.

Such is the life of a mom!

Make me oh Lord...

We started our new Bible Study this summer. The book we are going to be delving into is Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands.  Here is an excerpt from the book.

What is your "If Only..." dream? It is becoming a multi-millionaire and buying the house of your dreams? Perhaps it would be the job you have always wanted. Maybe your spouse would suddenly become the person you always hoped for, or your child would finally turn out all right, living responsibly and married to a wonderful person. What would be your best news?

Let's ask the question another way. What is your reason for getting up in the morning? What moves and motivates you through the day? What is so worthwhile that you are willing to give it your time, talents, and energy? What is so significant that you will build your whole life around it?

This book is about the best news a human being could ever receive. It is about something so significant that it makes everything we do worthwhile, even though we are just flawed people in a broken world. This news has nothing to do with fantasies, dreams, or unrealistic expectations. It is rooted in historical facts and present realities. It penetrates the harshest human situation with life-altering hope. It is the only thing really worth living for! It is the good new!

Supper club - It's a southern thing...

My friend from the north heard me talking about going to supper club that night. She was curious and asked what it was; I explained that a group of adults from our Sunday School class get together and eat. Some months we bring the kids and some months we don't. "Oh", she said..."potluck!"

Whatever you call it...we had fun.

This takes me back to high school where all the guys were huddled together and all the girls were together...I guess some things never end.

The kids had a blast eating pizza and playing outside.

Not too grown up

Nolan is turning 12 tomorrow and while Todd was out getting his Birthday present, he saw a race car at Target. This is the kind of car kids dream of, one they can drive themselves. Todd drove the car and called me on my cell as I was picking Nolan up from school to let me know about it. Nolan got the chance to drive it twice! There were huge speakers set up so you heard every engine revving up, every squeal of the tires, and every bump. The car was suspended and turned and jumped as you drove it.

This is my boy!!
